Artist’s Statement

SUBVERTING THE CONSTRUCT

We exist in a state of tension between provocation and acquiescence. The cacophony of my inner world is ordered through the paint. I Oscillate. The colors seem to follow.

At times I intend to subvert familiar constructs. By placing specific events in the form of the abstract, the universal characteristics of such events are revealed.

My creative process is essentially an act of presence, a movement from the back to the front of my mind. The viscera of existence, framed by crude, bright, honesty are always present.

I try to make paintings that seem as though they have always existed. Over time I have developed a process which allows my conscious planning mechanisms and my subconscious desire centers to exist in something like harmony. Sometimes

Painting is non-verbal, preferably not paraphrased. Besides, language can be a watery substitute for meaning. Meaning is a sensation. Abstraction is a distillation of sensation. The material adjuncts of life are only peripheral encasements. Through painting, I transpose existence into a proliferation of sensations. Sometimes.
